From energy regulation to migration, from media pluralism to banking and finance: our nine research programmes address the key questions facing the European Union and its global role through both basic and policy-oriented research.

We host nearly 70 funded research projects, including four funded by the European Research Council, that span a wide range of topics.

The results of our research often become policy output in the form of publications and public events, where academics and policy-makers exchange knowledge and build solutions to face the challenges of our time.

The HAEU preserves and makes accessible for research the archives deposited by EU institutions according to the thirty-year rule governing access to archival material. It also collects and preserves private papers of individuals, movements and international organisations involved in European integration. Finally, it facilitates research on the history of the European Union, promotes public interest in European integration and enhances transparency in the functioning of EU Institutions.
