A new cohort embarks on the SSM Foundation transformative journey
Last week, in collaboration with the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), we officially launched the inaugural week of the second edition of the ‘SSM Foundation Programme’ in Frankfurt, Germany. Building on the success of the...
The SSM Foundation programme provides supervisors with the opportunity to strengthen professional ties and deepen their expertise in key supervisory areas.
Throughout the week, participants engaged in a comprehensive agenda covering essential topics such as own funds and capital adequacy, liquidity risk and ILAAP, internal governance and risk management, climate and environmental risk, and market risk. They also worked on their 6-month-long capstone group assignment, focusing on SREP and OSI, which aims at stimulating teamwork and practical application of their knowledge.
A dedicated session covered the challenges of supervising banks in an era of geopolitical instability, featuring Andrea Enria, Senior advisor at the Bank of England and former Chair of the Supervisory Board, Edouard Fernandez-Bollo, Member of the Supervisory Board at the European Central Bank, and Pedro Teixeira, Director General of SSM Governance and Operations at the European Central Bank.
Another key insight came from a presentation of the soon-to-be-published paper of the Banking Supervision Policy Working Paper Series, ‘The Banking Union at Ten and the Frontier of European Integration’ by Edouard Fernandez-Bollo.
Participants engaged in the Climate Fresk Workshop, an interactive session designed to enhance their understanding of climate science. Using IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reports, the workshop provided a hands-on approach to discussing environmental risks and fostering actionable insights.
The week also featured notable speeches by Mário Centeno, Governor of Banco de Portugal, and Rui Pinto, Member of the Board of Directors at Banco de Portugal. Their contributions enriched the programme’s networking events, held at prestigious venues across Lisbon, further strengthening the bonds within the SSM community.
With the Lisbon training week successfully completed, participants now move on to an online learning block before heading to Florence in June for the final phase of the programme. The journey will culminate in the delivery of their capstone study and the final graduation ceremony.
We are proud to be part of this innovative learning journey, designed by the SSM Training team at the European Central Bank, which plays a pivotal role in fostering a cohesive supervisory culture across Europe.
