Biography

Umberto Marengo has over 10 years of experience at the intersection of strategy and impact in finance and development. He is currently Director for Private Capital Mobilisation and Blended Finance at the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero.

Before GFANZ, he was Impact Manager and Strategy Manager at British International Investment, the UK’s development finance institution. Prior to this, he held roles at the Economist Intelligence Unit, Boston Consulting Group, and the European Commission, advising governments, international organizations, and financial institutions on economic development, strategic planning, and sustainable finance. Umberto is also a visiting fellow at the European University Institute, where he teaches public policy and corporate strategy, combining academic research with practical experience. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Cambridge and has authored several publications assessing impact frameworks used by development finance institutions and private impact investors.
