Biography

María del Carmen is a Research Fellow at the Florence School of Banking and Finance, a programme of the Robert Schuman Centre at the European University Institute. She contributes to the scientific design, teaching activities and coordination of training programmes offered by the school. María holds a PhD in Political Science (Universität Siegen) and an Executive Master’s in European Union Studies (ULB). Her research interests include sustainable finance, central banking and sustainability, with a broader interest in EU economic and financial governance architecture and the political economy of European integration.

She previously worked in legal and public affairs at the World Savings and Retail Banking Institute–European Savings and Retail Banking Group and in the Economic and Commercial Affairs Unit at the Mission of Mexico to the EU in Brussels. She has also held research and teaching positions at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies, the Universität Siegen, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
