Biography
John Wennstrom joined IOSCO in April 2020 and leads the Markets Policy Team within the Standards Development Department. The Markets Policy Team is responsible for supporting IOSCO’s Committee 2 on secondary markets, Committee 5 on investment management, and Committee 7 on derivatives. Prior to leading the Markets Policy Team, John supported IOSCO’s financial stability agenda, through the Financial Stability Engagement Group (FSEG) as well as IOSCO’s Committee on Emerging Risks (CER), which leads IOSCO’s forward looking risk identification, monitoring, and analysis work under the “Risk Outlook”.
Before joining IOSCO, John spent 10 years across the public and private sector. More recently at the Bank of England where he was a policy advisor in the Bank’s EU withdrawal unit focusing on contract continuity for derivatives and before that, he was a senior supervisor responsible for a portfolio of European banks in the UK. Before joining the Bank of England, John spent five years across New York and London where he was Vice President at CLS Group, a financial market infrastructure specialised in FX settlement.
John holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Champlain College in Vermont, USA and a Master’s Degree in Financial Regulation and Central Banking from Warwick Business School in the UK. John is also a Certified Compliance and Regulatory Professional (CCRP) from Pace University, the Lubin School of Business in New York.
