Biography
Jacques Botes joined the SARB in 2013 and is currently the Divisional Head for the Resolution and Crisis Preparedness Division. Prior to joining the SARB, he was an attorney of the High Court and Partner at a boutique law firm in Sandton where he headed the banking and insolvency law divisions. As the policy lead and co-drafter of the resolution law he has been instrumental in the development of a strengthened framework for resolution and deposit insurance in South Africa, as enacted in the Financial Sector Laws Amendment Act (FLSAA). Jacques is also a member of various international bodies relating to resolution, including the FSB’s cross-border crisis management group on banking and the UNIdroit working group on bank insolvency. He holds a LLB from the University of South Africa and a MSc in Finance from the University of London.
