Biography
Igor Angelini is a law-enforcement and public-security executive, serving as Senior Adviser to the Executive Director of Europol, where he provides strategic leadership on Europe’s most pressing economic and financial crime challenges. In this capacity, he was instrumental in establishing the European Financial and Economic Crime Centre (EFECC), a landmark initiative designed to enhance EU-wide operational cooperation, intelligence sharing and analytical capacity against sophisticated financial threats.
In the course of his career at the heart of European security architecture, Mr. Angelini has shaped and driven policy and operational frameworks to counter serious and organized crime. At the European Commission, Directorate-General for Home Affairs, he played a key role in formulating EU policies to combat crime and terrorism and in negotiating pivotal international agreements on security and police cooperation.
Previously at Europol, he led the agency’s Financial Intelligence Group, where he coordinated and supported complex investigations by EU Member States into money laundering, terrorist financing, corruption and the recovery of criminal assets.
Mr. Angelini’s professional journey began in 1993 with the Guardia di Finanza, Italy’s Financial Police, where he commanded multiple investigative units focused on economic and financial crime, international financial investigations and joint operational initiatives with foreign law-enforcement partners.
He holds degrees in Law and Economic and Financial Security, alongside postgraduate studies in data intelligence and strategic decisions, reflecting his longstanding commitment to integrating legal, analytical and technological perspectives into the fight against transnational financial crime.
