Biography

Alessandro Profumo is an international CEO with over 30 years’ experience leading complex organisations and driving successful transformations across both banking and industrial sectors.
Alessandro was until recently the Chief Executive Officer of Leonardo SpA (2017- May 2023). Leonardo is a leading player in the global Aerospace, Defense & Security sector, with €14.7bn revenues and 51K+ employees across 105 worldwide sites. He successfully navigated Leonardo through a period of unprecedented global challenges. Additionally, he delivered a comprehensive transformation from 2018 to 2022, enabling the business to emerge technologically, commercially and financially stronger, with a more resilient, innovative and sustainable business model.
Prior to this, Alessandro led a distinguished career in the financial services industry, including positions at Unicredit (Before Credito Italiano) where he was CEO from 1997 to 2010. In February 2012, he was nominated by the European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services to be part of a group of European experts “the High Level Expert Group” in Brussels, to reform the structure of the EU banking sector.
A graduate of Bocconi University with a degree in Business Economics, he was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro in 2004 and decorated Grande Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana (Grand Officer Order of Merit of the Italian Republic) in 2005. In February 2023, the University of Naples Federico II awarded him an honorary degree in Materials Engineering.
