Take part in a debate with experts from policy, academia, and industry on whether Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) can unlock a truly integrated Capital Markets Union in Europe.

Join us for a public online debate exploring the role of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) and asset tokenisation in advancing the Capital Markets Union (CMU) in Europe.

Bringing together voices from the private sector, policy-making, and academia, this one-hour session will delve into a central question: In the context of Europe’s highly fragmented financial landscape, can DLT offer a level playing field to enhance capital mobility across borders?

The discussion will address key questions, including:

  • What are the policy implications of a growing reliance on DLT in the European financial system?
  • What risks accompany the widespread adoption of DLT-based tokenisation?
  • How might tokenised markets enhance the efficiency of data collection and storage in capital markets?
  • What steps are necessary to fully integrate DLT into European capital markets?
  • Is Level 1 legislation needed to support such integration?
  • Could DLT-based markets serve as a 28th regime to transcend persistent national fragmentation?

The debate will also reflect on recent insights from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS, 2024) and the European Central Bank (Cipollone, 2024), alongside real-world experiences from market participants.
