This webinar explores the practical steps needed to demonstrate effective AML/CFT systems and succeed in today's more rigorous assessment environment.

FATF standards have evolved, and expectations of jurisdictions have increased. Recent mutual evaluations show that the assessment bar has been raised. Countries now need to prepare earlier, coordinate across the entire national AML/CFT system, and demonstrate not only that the right legal and institutional frameworks are in place, but that they deliver effective results in practice. For EU Member States, FATF readiness must also be viewed through the lens of the EU AML/CFT framework, in which national authorities operate within an increasingly integrated legal and supervisory architecture.

This 90-minute webinar, jointly hosted by the Florence School of Banking and Finance at the European University Institute, RUSI's Centre for Finance and Security, and Oliver Wyman, will focus on three practical priorities:

  • Making the case: Lessons from recent evaluations on what the evolving standards, methodology, and assessment approach mean for national preparation.
  • Proving effectiveness: How to build a clear national narrative, assemble persuasive evidence, and prepare officials for scrutiny during the onsite visit.
  • Mobilising the wider system: How to engage supervisors and the private sector, including through public-private partnerships and collaboration on fraud and broader financial crime risks.

The webinar is primarily intended for heads of delegation, national coordinators, ministries, FIUs, supervisors, and other public officials involved in preparing for FATF or FSRB mutual evaluations. It is also open to relevant private-sector participants.
