The rise of green fintech: exploring a new trend

Between digitalisation and sustainability Two main trends are currently reshaping the financial sector. On the one hand, technologically enabled financial innovation (fintech), resulting in, e.g., new business models, products and services, has deeply impacted...

Last week, in collaboration with the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), we officially launched the inaugural week of the second edition of the ‘SSM Foundation Programme’ in Frankfurt, Germany.

Building on the success of the inaugural edition in 2024, the SSM Foundation Programme opened its doors to a new cohort of 45 participants from 23 Institutions across Europe, with the aim of building a common culture of supervision across Europe. The programme equips participants with essential technical expertise and collaborative skills to address the evolving demands of banking supervision.

Claudia Buch, Chair of the Supervisory Board, greeted the attendees underscoring the vital role that education plays in empowering supervisors to navigate the complexities of the banking landscape.

“Training and continuous learning are not mere complements to our work; they are a key prerequisite for our success at the SSM.”

Thorsten Beck, FBF Director, mentioned the relevance of the Programme considering the challenges of today:

“Building a community of supervisors across Europe is a critical component, and that’s also what we see as one of the purposes of this Foundation programme.”

During the first week of the programme, participants engaged with experts on key supervisory topics. Sessions covered the strategic vision and priorities of the Single Supervisory Mechanism, the Risk Tolerance Framework, and the diversity of business models in the European banking industry. Discussions also addressed climate-related credit risk and its implications for the financial sector. Additionally, a session on self-awareness introduced participants to a coaching journey focused on managing personal energy for effective leadership.

These discussions provided insights aimed at strengthening participants’ supervisory capabilities in a dynamic regulatory environment.
