Marimon calls for less political responsibility at the ECB
In a follow-up to his interview with the FBF, Ramon Marimon has urged against the centralisation of power at the ECB. “We will have to change the current situation in which the whole load is in the ECB’s hands,” warned the professor of economics, “it cannot be that Draghi has such political responsibility.”
Speaking to the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics in response to the new Greek bailout deal, the professor also criticised the behaviour of the Troika. “I think a mistake from the beginning was to be too interventionist in telling them what to do,” remarked Marimon, in relation to the reforms imposed on Greece by the country’s creditors.
Marimon is the Scientific Coordinator of the Horizon 2020 project ADEMU (A Dynamic Economic and Monetary Union), which focuses on stability within the Eurozone. In the video, Marimon discusses the recent referendum, the new bailout deal and the architecture of the EMU.
