Biography
María del Carmen is a Research Associate at the Florence School of Banking and Finance, a programme of the Robert Schuman Centre at the European University Institute. She contributes to the scientific design, teaching, and coordination activities of the FBF’s executive education programmes (online and residential) in the areas of sustainable finance, digital finance, financial regulation and governance and actively participates in the organisation of high-level policy events at the FBF. Previously, she worked as legal affairs assistant at the World Savings and Retail Banking Institute-European Savings and Retail Banking Group and as an intern at the Economic and Commercial Affairs Unit at the Mission of Mexico to the EU in Brussels. She was visiting researcher at the Centre d’Etude de la vie Politique (ULB) in Brussels, member of the Global Scanning Network at the Danish think tank Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies and lecturer in European Studies and International Relations at undergraduate level at the University of Siegen and at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. María holds a PhD in political science (Universität Siegen) and an Executive master’s degree in European Union Studies (ULB). Her research interests include economic and financial governance architecture in the EU, political economy of European integration, sustainable finance and the intersection between sustainability and digital finance.
